Glimmer for Street Kids
Charity Organization
About
Glimmer for Street Kids was established in 2012 by Dr. Abera Legesse. Abera grew up in the community of Kore. He wanted to serve his community, and so he founded Glimmer for Street Kids. GSK is the umbrella organization, under which is three programs: Korah Kids, Bridge School, and Delivering Hope International.
The first program to be established was the Korah Kids sponsorship program. This program provides funds for the children in the program to be able to attend the government schools. It also provides food rations and medical check ups.
Bridge School began three years ago. Bridge School is for children who have never attended school. The goal of this school is to give these children the education they need in order to test into and attend third grade at the government schools. In the first cycle, the students attended for two years, and then 35 of them were able to test into the government school and begin attending third grade. The second round was just begun with 18 students. Our hope is that all of these students will attend for two years, and then be able to test into third grade and start attending government school. In addition to receiving education, the children receive breakfast and lunch every day.
Delivering Hope International exists to bring hope and health to vulnerable women and children by using doulas to provide dignified, compassionate care. The doulas provide relevant health education as well as emotional and physical support to women before, during, and after birth. Empowered by Christ’s love, DHI provides bridges to education and care for mothers, ultimately improving maternal and infant health while caring for their whole being.
